Christmas dinner might be the main event, but a mid-week festive gathering with friends can be even more fun. Bring a bit of Brooklyn to your table with crystal and ceramics designed for DUMBO House, shake up a cocktail and serve our simple 'corner shop canapes' (strictly speaking you might not be able to find these ingredients in every single corner shop, but you should definitely be able to pick them up from the nearest supermarket on your way home from work.)

Matteo Battistello is Bars Manager at Soho House 76 Dean Street. He shared his recipe for a simple, speedy cocktail that's perfect for greeting guests. ‘Usually festive cocktails are quite heavy, they use cream, chocolate, so I wanted this to be really refreshing but still Christmassy. It's simple because you only need one bottle – spiced rum – which you should be able to get from any supermarket. I wanted people to be able to play with the ingredients, so you need to muddle a little bit of cinnamon, a little bit of cardamom and one star anise – that’s going to give that Christmassy feel to the cocktail. You have the spices, the base which is rum, you have lemon juice and sugar to balance each other and pomegranate juice for colour.’

Matteo’s Jingle Punch

Ingredients:

3 cardamom pods, star anise, small cinnamon stick
Orange peel
15ml lemon juice
25ml pomegranate juice
1.5 teaspoons of caster sugar
50ml spiced rum

Method:

'Muddle the spices first with a spoon or a muddler, then shake everything up with ice in a cocktail shaker for about 12-15 seconds and use a strainer to stop the spices going into the rocks glass. Garnish with a cinnamon stick and a nice orange wheel.'
