'Our favourite place in the world' is how Nicemakers’ founders Joyce Urbanus and Dax Roll describe their home near the De Hoge Veluwe National Park, just outside the Dutch capital. With plenty of open spaces for entertaining, it's designed for an indoor-outdoor way of living. 'We spend a lot of time outside on the sun deck, which is covered in comfortable mattresses and pillows. It’s where we read books, nap, meditate and dance,' they explain.

When designing their own home, the couple wanted to let nature take centre stage. Every room is light-filled and airy, with large floor-to-ceiling glass windows that offer the best view of the garden. Greenery and natural textures, such as wooden sculptures and carvings, marble and ceramics, are seen throughout. 'In most of our projects we use colour, but here we wanted to keep it more natural to mirror the surroundings. Nature changes all year round – that’s what brings the colour,' says Roll.
