Working with Rise Art
Our ongoing partnership with leading online gallery Rise Art has led us to curate original works by emerging and renowned artists. Spotlighting pieces online and through exhibitions in our Studios worldwide, the collaboration helps our members and customers build collections that give their homes a unique sense of identity - just as we do when styling our Houses.
Choosing artwork for the home
Styling your interiors with art is more than just filling empty walls; it's an opportunity to express your personal taste and bring character into your home.
Soho Home's Interior Style Manager, Candy Murray, recommends starting by '[looking] at the placement of artwork within your home - where could you naturally locate art? Is there a large blank wall in your living space, above your bed or a quiet corner somewhere?'
Ensuring the art works proportionally within the space is important; as Murray says, 'Consider the scale and dimensions, whether you want to look for one large canvas or a collection of smaller artworks.'
If your house is already fully furnished, Murray suggests looking for artwork that complements your home: 'Look at the forms and colours so the art feels considered, also research the artist and the meaning behind the piece. It has to feel right to you.'
Artist spotlight: Henry Ward
Working from his Woolwich studio, London-based artist Henry Ward prioritises matter, medium and the sensory impact of paint over representation.
Drawn to wild colours, bold gestures and layered surfaces, Ward paints and repaints - often reworking or erasing sections, with forms disappearing from one canvas and reappearing elsewhere, sometimes years later.
Place two of his paintings side by side and subtle links emerge, each piece holding the memory of others.
Artist spotlight: Barbara Kuebel
Exhibiting worldwide, Austrian-born artist Barbara Kuebel draws inspiration from moments of discomfort in social interactions.
Through her handcrafted wood engravings, she creates portraits that balance abstraction and figuration, capturing a vast range of emotions.
For Kuebel, gestures take precedence over detail. She composes her work with shapes and graphic contrasts, evoking a raw emotional intensity and inviting viewers to look differently and get lost in the possibilities.
Soho Home X Rise Art events
Recently, we hosted an event in collaboration with Rise Art. Our Westbourne Grove Studio was the setting for a life drawing workshop led by artist Kate Hiley. It was a chance to connect with fellow creatives and try something new.
